    John F. Porter is native to Idaho. He received his B.S.ed degree from Idaho State University in 1966 and his J.D. degree from University of Idaho in 1982. In the intervening years, he taught school and worked in Adult and Child services for the State of Idaho, primarily in child protection. During the last one and a half years of law school, he interned with the Chapter 7 Trustee for Northern Idaho, and has been in practice before the bankruptcy court since his admission to the bar in 1982. He has also practiced in the field of commercial collections since 1982. 

He is married to Evelyn and has two grown children and four grandchildren. Enjoying the rural life, he has kept his practice in the small town of Troy, Idaho. Troy is within 11 miles of Moscow, Idaho, home of the University of Idaho and is within 20 miles of Pullman, Washington, home of Washington State University.
